How water chemistry affects your pool liner - Calcium
It seems odd that part of your pool water balancing is keeping calcium hardness up. The reason for this, is that when the calcium level of the water drops, nature wants to try to bring it back up. As a result the water tries to find calcium from what it comes in contact with – your pool liner. Calcium is a stabilizing component in vinyl (technically polyvinylchloride), as a result low levels of calcium in pool water will cause the calcium in the vinyl to be leached out, resulting in a shortening of the lifespan of the pool liner. Keep calcium hardness above 200 ppm. So calcium is not only good for your bones, it is good for your pool liner!
