How water chemistry affects your pool liner – pH

pH is the measurement of how acidic or alkali your pool water is.  pH below 7.2 ppm means that your pool water is too acidic and pH above 7.6 ppm, means that your pool water is too alkali. A pH value of 7 ppm means that the water is exactly neutral. The recommended range of 7.2 to 7.6 may seem very tiny, however the scale is logarithmic, meaning that an increase of just 2 ppm takes the pH up or down by a factor of 10 times! So a pH of 7.2 is 2x more acidic than 7.6, a pH of 6.4 is 6x more acidic! The more acidic the pool water is, the more the vinyl liner is affected. So balance your life, and balance your pool water!
